WordPress database optimization is an important part of running a wordpress site that many bloggers overlook. If you are finding that your wordpress site is slow, there are probably a number of reasons for this. One of the reasons is the wordpress database. WordPress database optimization is very important. Every time you make a change to a wordpress page, post, etc, wordpress saves older copies of the page or post as drafts. It does not take long before your database becomes bloated with many many older copies of all these pages, posts, etc making the database searches take lobger. This can be further complicated if your site is running on a shared hosting provider as there will be many websites hosted on one machine as well as many others user’s wordpress databases on those servers.
So how do you fix this? Get yourself a wordpress database optimizer plugin. There are plenty of them out there, but the one I use and have had lots of luck with is wp-optimize. Its very easy to use
There are settings to schedule optimizations, but it is simple enough to do whenever your in wordpress and this way you can control when it happens.
I used this plugin to clean up one of my clients sites and the load time was 0.5 second faster on average. Does not seem like much, but it does make a difference..
If your databases are optimized and your site is still slow, here are 2 other things to check
- quality of hosting provider
- unnecessary plugins bloating your wordpress install
